Hi all,
Given that iOS 7 now supports hand writing as an input method, I'd like to brush up my print skills which at the moment pretty much consist of writing my name very badly.
Does anyone know of a resource that describes each letre of the english alphabet so I can practice the different letres?
Thank you in advance.
They make magnetic print letters that have a braille letter on them so you know what letter they are. You could just buy a set of those and start writing words on your refrigerator.
Will investigate; thank you.
Some toy stores have them in blocks. Check out toys R us.
I'd be happy to give it a try. I can do the print ones but the cursive will be a bit more challenging. I'm not even sure I make all my cursive upper case letters correctly. I usually just do a capital print letter and then the rest of the word in cursive if I have to, except for my signature of course.
Anyway, this will be fun. Give me a day or two to write it up so it will make some sort of sense.
The toy blocks will not be useful in this contact unless you already know the letters to start with. If not, it will just 26 blocks of something but nothing at the same time. In the terms of iOS hand writing, it uses Print, rather than cursive
You could look and see if you can get a book. I have heard that there are books out there that will teach you They are for the blind.
Also, the National Braille Press has plastic sheets for $5 with all upper and lower case letters on them in alphabetical order and has Braille underneath the raised print letters. It begins with the upper case version of the letter, and then beside the upper case letter is the lower case version of that letter, and below each letters is, for example, a capital A in Braille and then a regular, lower case a below the print lower case a. Each print raised letter corresponds with a Braille letter underneath it, so you would be able to tell what print letter was above the Braille. I got some of these so I can help my sighted daughter with her alphabet, so that way she could see the print letters and I could have the Braille, and I can also point to the print letters, as they are raised. I think that writing print is a little more tricky than just knowing what it looks like, but it is doable. I can write print somewhat, but it is not always legible. I don't do cursive hardly at all except for signing my name, which looks horrible and is totally not legible, but I can do print a lot better.
Oh yes, and the website for the National Braille Press, in case anyone needs it, is:
www.nbp.org
Also, I believe that both NBP and Seedlings as well as the Braille Bookstore all have the magnetic letters with the print shape of the letter and the Braille embossed on them, so that is another option.
anyone heard of do it write? nice app I got here.
Yeah, do it write is pretty cool. It's a game where they challenge you to write the printe letters on the iphone and see how accurately you can do it. They give you a practice mode and everything. It's only like 1.99. You can find it in the Itunes store.
Couple other things about the app:
There's a game mode where the letters are falling from the sky, and you have to write them fast enough to shoot them out of the air to destroy them. Kind of like space invaders. Also, there are cursive letters, I'm pretty sure on that, but not possitive. I'll have to check my Iphone.
Hope this was helpful.
yeah, I love that app. Used it quite a bit.
